    STEUBENVILLE - John J. Smith, 87, of Steubenville died Oct. 10 at City Hospital.
    He was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Steubenville, a son of the late Joan and Martin Smith. In addition to his parents, he was precede din death by a brother, Robert ,in 1987; and a sister, Roberta, in 1991.
    He was employed at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. in the electronics department until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus and the Steubenville Rotary Club.
    Surviving are his wife, Mabel Smith, whom he married on June 7, 1938; a son, John Jr. of Weirton; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jody) Johnson of Pittsburgh; a brother, George of Wintersville; and four grandchildren.
    Friends may call at the Matthews Funeral Home, 123 Main St., from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at S. Pius X Church, with the Rev. John Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
