Description

Obituaries in The Journal are both free and paid. Funeral homes should use the following guidelines when submitting an obituary.

The large type nameline on an obituary will not be charged. Only the text portion of the obituary will be charged. The first six lines of an obituary are free, while the rest of the text will cost $2 per line. A line consists of about 40 characters.

A services notice containing specific information outlined below will be free. If a service notice is not published, the first 6 lines of an obituary will be free.

The free services notice will contain only the name, age and town of the deceased, date of death, time and place of calling hours and time and place of service. No other information will be included in the free death notice.

There will not be a separate charge for a photo used in an obituary. Due to the short length of a service notice, no photo will be used.

If The Journal incorrectly publishes information supplied, The Journal will rerun the obituary and charge for the correct publication only.

If there is incorrect information supplied to the newspaper, The Journal will bill for any subsequent additional publication of the full obituary information.

All funeral notices and obituaries must be submitted through funeral homes. The funeral home should include a phone number and fax number in order for the obit clerks to be able to get in touch to provide the price of the obit.

The deadline for obituary filing is 6 p.m. for the following day's paper. Obituaries will be placed in The Journal's on-line edition at no additional charge.
